I used a lot of other peoples lines. The first verse has some standard blues lines, then "Riding with the Ghost" and "Looking Door to Door" is from Songs; Ohia "I've been riding with the ghost" off Magnolia. Haley told me once those lines reminded her of me before I met her. The second verse, about the weeping willow is my creation. I had the image of my trailer way up in the sky on top of a giant weeping willow swaying quietly in the wind over the town. The third verse, "where have all the flowers gone" is one of the only songs Pete Seeger wrote, about innocence lost. Fifth verse, "The blues ain't nothin' but a good woman on your mind" I heard in a Mississippi John Hurt song. "Don't leave me now, I got troubles on my mind" is from the standard "Going down the road feeling bad" blues song that I used to do.

about

It was July and commonly 90 degrees. My air conditioner wasn't working. I took in a crazy stray cat that never ever left me alone. There was a flea epidemic. I worked in a library 40 hours a week. I watched an average of 2 movies a day. Ate Little Caesars and ice cream all the time. It was 3 months after the split. The future was still unsure. All her stuff was still in the trailer.

I hadn't recorded in a year and a half. I hadn't recorded a song that I wrote in 3 years. It was frustrating and difficult with the cat clawing up my leg and the sweat dripping down my face.

The idea was to record an aggressive acoustic indi-folk album. I borrowed Jake Ratliff's guitar (now my guitar) and recorded a few tracks, then recorded a few more. Then it became something else.
